Quick Tip: Mental Toughness or Mental Peace?

Filed in:

Rohit Sharma, on returning from injury, said "my mental peace is my biggest strength". Interesting choice of a verb, that.

Why didn't the Indian international go for "toughness"? Most players would.

We can only speculate. Yet, it seems to me that Rohit has a good handle on his mental make-up. He keeps his head while others lose theirs. He is not the berserker in battle like Dale Steyn. His mind is ice.

Improve Slip Catching with This Lesson from Old England

Ex-England coach Duncan Fletcher loves slip catching practice. He comes alive as he edges the ball to the slip cordon and encourages the players to strive for more consistency, more commitment and ultimately, more brilliance.

But it was not always the case. Fletch inherited a slip cordon in 2000 that was less than brilliant. He told me that many of the players were happy to let the ball bounce just infront of them instead of diving forward and attempting the catch.

He used to call poor commitment to this kind of ball "Old England" .

The Benefits of a High Intensity Batting Academy

This is a guest article from Gary Palmer about the benefits of an intense Academy, and how you can join CCM Academy to get your fix of intense training.

Intensity will make you a better batsman.

When I say "intensity", I don't mean how angry you get. The Hulk is intense, but he can't bat. For me it's all about focus. At CCM Academy we pay meticulous attention to detail when it comes to constructing technique and developing skill levels. You can only do that in an intense academy environment.

Repetition over long periods of time makes a huge difference in developing and achieving high levels of skill, especially batting. Subjecting players to batting for prolonged period of time is paramount in developing focus, concentration and mental strength.
