Standing Up Drills for Wicketkeepers

The great thing about standing up sessions is that they should never be dull: you can create lots of distraction, different spins and bounce types with the overall aim to be to overload the keeper so that the practice is tougher than the actual match.

We still need to keep the drills relative and functional to match play, yet feel free to let that imagination run wild.

Yes, Yes, Yes: How to Effectively Assess Each Shot

I don't know about you, but I work with a number of talented players who are prone to overanalysing their technique and outcomes when they are batting.

 I even did this myself!

The result is that their over-analytical findings impede their ability to learn from the previous ball or shot yet also be focused and ready to play the next ball to the best of their ability.

Fingers Up or Down: Which Catching Technique is Better?

I am often asked if the "English" method of high catching (fingers down) is better than its "Australian" counterpart.

Handle Pressure with Set Piece Practice

What’s the best way to handle a pressure situation in a cricket match?

Simple: knowing you have been there before and succeeded. There is no better confidence than the confidence of experience. This is why practicing set pieces is a crucial tool for any side who want to know for sure they can battle out of any situation, no matter how rough.

A good coach or captain is always looking for ways to add this pressure into practice to build confidence. Set piece or scenario practice is the perfect tool for the job.

Build a Backroom Staff for Your Team on a Tight Budget

Modern professional cricket teams have a support team of analysts and specialists that the average side can only dream about.

Except, if you build it right, you can have a team that helps your side become the best they can be. And you don’t need to pay a bean in salary.

If you can build a diverse group of people with different levels of experience and success, you’ll be 100% more likely to score more runs, take more wickets and win more games.

The Truth about LTAD for Cricket

Filed in:

From parents to coaches; a lot of people care about producing the next generation of high-class cricketers.

We certainly do on PitchVision Academy.

That’s why Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) is attractive: it’s a governing-body approved model for what to teach and when to teach it.

But that strength is also a weakness.

LTAD is a just model. It has really only been around for 10 years. There is little proof that it works.

This is a guest article from Head Coach of Twenty20 Cricket Company; Darren Talbot

1. Make sure that there is a suitably qualified coach with each group

Even experienced cricketers are unable to deliver a proper session for your juniors as there is a massive difference between coaching and being a qualified coach.
