JOBS: Administrator - Western District Cricket Union (Scotland)

Filed in:

Closing date: 14th February 2014

The Western District Cricket Union (WDCU) has recently assumed responsibility for the organisation of all cricket in the west of Scotland under an agreement with Cricket Scotland(CS).  This will increase significantly the  number of matches for which it has responsibility. As a result, WDCU require the provision of a Cricket Administration service.

This important role encompasses the administration of all cricket competitions under the auspices of the WDCU, including league and cup competitions.  The Administrator will require to provide general administrative and advisory support to the WDCU Office Bearers, Executive Committee, and sub Committees as required to assist them in fulfilling a schedule of several hundred fixtures in a typical season.

This will include being the main point of contact for clubs, maintenance of the WDCU website, provision of reports, briefing notes and recommendations, secretariat support as required (meeting organization, minuting and actions).

The service will be provided via a contract, either from a self employed individual or a corporate entity. Although there are no set hours , there will be a requirement to provide certain service levels to the WDCU and its member clubs.  Given the seasonal nature of the sport it is envisaged that the off season time requirement will be less than that of the period leading up to and including the season itself. It is estimated that the time commitment will  equate to approximately 20 hours per week averaged on an annual basis.

As the Administrator will be the main point of contact for our member clubs, they should possess strong communication and problem solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to handle difficult situations effectively. Ability to liaise effectively with other bodies such as Cricket Scotland, WoSACO and Player Reg is essential.

Applicants should have a good knowledge of the game of cricket  and it will be a distinct advantage to have some background in sports administration, ideally in cricket. It is expected that the applicant will quickly assimilate the governance and operational structure of the WDCU.

The applicant is expected to possess good computer skills. A good working experience of Microsoft Office applications including Excel and Word is a prerequisite, while some knowledge of the systems applications required to manage the website (HTML, CSS,Wordpress, FTP) would be preferred, although the ability to assimilate this quickly for the right applicant would also be acceptable.

The Administrator will be responsible for providing their own working environment, although associated costs will be taken account of in the contract terms. Some evening and weekend working will be required, along with some travel to attend WDCU meetings. For this reason, it is envisaged that the successful applicant will reside in the West of Scotland. The successful applicant will report to the Executive Secretary of the WDCU, although it is expected that the role will require minimal supervision.

Payment for the role will be negotiable, based on the final agreed specification, and is expected to be in the region of £12,000 per annum. It is expected that the exact nature of the role will evolve in the initial period and accordingly the specification will be reviewed at the end of the first season of operation, and subsequently each year.

Applications should be sent to the Executive Secretary, Mark Colman at markmcolman@aol.com from whom further details of the expected contract activities can be obtained. The closing date for applications is Friday 14th February 2014.
