BACKGROUND
ECB is the national governing body for all cricket in England and Wales. It supports all areas of the game from England Men, Women and Disabilities teams through to the 39 Counties and a national network of more than 5,500 recreational cricket affiliated clubs and leagues. Formed in 1997 and based at Lord’s, the ECB is committed to leading and supporting the growth of the cricket in England and Wales.

 

Since 1997, the ECB has developed into a business with annual revenues of over £100m, employing over 200 people and investing millions each year in cricket infrastructure, player development, participation programmes, coach development, matches and competitions, and promotion of the game locally, nationally and internationally. The England Men’s team has enjoyed more than a decade of sustained success, reaching Number 1 rankings in Test and One Day International cricket, winning the World T20 and regaining the Ashes for the fourth consecutive time at home in 2015. The England Women’s team are currently second in the international team rankings and won back to back Ashes in 2013 and 2014.

REMIT
This role will be responsible for delivering an innovative, forward thinking business infrastructure internally at the ECB and across the cricketing networks.

KEY RESPONSIBILITY
This role will have responsibility for a Business Services department which will include: Finance, Human Resources (People Department), Information Technology (IT), Ethics & Compliance, and Procurement.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
Financial:

  • Overall responsibility for financial reporting, including statutory reporting, audit and tax reporting.
  • Support the leadership team with relevant and effective financial information to enable the organisation to budget effectively, deliver its revenue objectives and maintain strong control over expenditure.
  • Take responsibility for and deliver an effective budgeting process.
  • To work with the Director of Local Partnerships on sustainable business models within the game.
  • Manage the allocation of funds across the counties, and play a central role in developing a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with First Class Counties (FCCs)
  • To provide a point of contact for all ECB constituents and offer financial guidance for the game at all levels.
  • To support, monitor and report on the financial position and activities of all constituent bodies of the ECB.
  • To develop and implement rigorous internal business processes.
  • To develop support services for Counties.


General Management:

  • Take ownership of the ECB’s risk management process, reporting to the Audit, Risk and Governance Committee as appropriate.
  • To act as Company Secretary and to ensure compliance as appropriate with all legal requirements, and the conduct of the Board’s affairs in accordance with constitutional requirements.
  • Oversee the Human Resources function to ensure the development and delivery of a five-year People strategy that drives engagement and performance to become an Employer of Choice.
  • Oversee the IT function to ensure ECB has business systems and hardware which are fit for purpose and sustainable.
  • Ensure ECB is compliant from a data protection and IT security perspective.
  • Develop a Procurement function of all goods and services to ECB, setting out clear policy and internal procedures.

KEY SKILLS:

  • An inspirational leader and manager who will make an active and positive contribution to the senior leadership team at the ECB.
  • A strong people manager who leads from the front, embedding a culture of high performance within their teams.
  • A detail-oriented and imaginative Finance Director who is prepared to invest significant time in enhancing ECB’s financial operations.
  • A proactive operator with experience of leading an organisation through a period of change.
  • Qualified accountant with proven experience in a senior finance role.
  • Strong negotiator with the ability to communicate with and influence a complex range of stakeholders.
  • Strong commercial acumen with the ability to drive efficiency and quality.
  • Drives change proactively and is constantly seeking to evolve the business and can demonstrate where they have had an impact.
  • A strategic thinker with the ability to work across a number of different functions yet ensure that they all work in synergy with each other.
