Yorkshire Cancer Research & Yorkshire Cricket – Community Engagement Officer

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Yorkshire Cricket & Yorkshire Cancer Research as Community Engagement Officer. 

Yorkshire Cancer Research and Yorkshire Cricket have announced a brand new, exciting partnership which has created a new full time post.

The role will focus on creating, developing and implementing a number of initiatives and events that engage the community in improving health and wellbeing and improve cancer outcomes for people living in Yorkshire. From the beginning of the 2015 season, one of the main initiatives will be focused on raising awareness of melanoma and other skin cancers across the 747 cricket clubs in the county. The post will also look at offering screening clinics at home matches and health programmes tackling rising levels of health inequalities. Members of the Yorkshire first team will act as ambassadors and will dedicate time to support projects across the county. 

Applicants need a sound knowledge and understanding of managerial and administrative competencies; together with excellent communication skills. 

Applicants will be required to have experience of working or volunteering within a sport/charitable environment, excellent communication skills, ability to produce high quality written materials for marketing and promotion and be able to use Microsoft Office. 

Knowledge of cancer and health risks e.g smoking, obesity, sedentary lifestyle, poor diet etc and the ability to deliver informative presentations would be a distinct advantage.

The successful applicant will be employed by Yorkshire Cancer Research and will be managed jointly by Yorkshire Cancer Research and The Yorkshire Cricket Foundation. The post will be based at Headingley Cricket Ground in the Yorkshire Cricket Foundation Office but at least one day a week at Yorkshire Cancer Research Offices in Harrogate. 

The post is full-time, for two years with the potential to be extended beyond that period. A full current UK driving license is required as is access to a vehicle. The role will involve extensive travel across Yorkshire.
