An exciting opportunity has arisen at Sussex County Cricket Club to work as a Deputy Catering Operations Manager. This is a great time to join the Club as we continue to grow our catering and hospitality business. A pivotal role at the Club, the successful candidate will have strong people skills and be accountable for the consistent delivery of the catering and hospitality offering (at non-match day events and initially at the cricket match day hospitality in a support role), with a tireless commitment to delivering outstanding client service in all aspects of the role.
The ideal candidate will have gained experience in a quality venue catering and hospitality environment and be able to demonstrate a successful track record in a front-line management role. A commercially-minded person who has an eye for detail and a commitment to delivering outstanding client service are essential criteria for this role.
We are looking for a self-motivated, flexible, team-player with strong leadership and organisational skills. Resilience and a strong commitment to continuous improvement are pre-requisites.
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills, in terms of both written accuracy and verbal articulation.
The ideal person must be flexible and willing to work irregular working patterns in response to operational needs.

Job Description
Job Title: Deputy Catering Operations Manager
Reports To: Catering and Hospitality Manager
Location: Hove County Cricket Ground with some work at the outgrounds
Hours: Full time with the requirement to work during evenings and weekends
Remuneration: Competitive salary commensurate with experience plus benefits and 25 days holiday per annum
Role Purpose
Accountable for the preparation and safe operational delivery of the catering and hospitality service during non- cricketing events, ensuring the Club provides a consistently outstanding client service offering.
Performing a support role to the Catering and Hospitality Manager for the preparation and operational delivery of match-day hospitality and events, with accountability for this area in the future.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage all aspects of ground set-up relating to hospitality for cricket and non-cricketing events (Hove and the outgrounds).
- Responsible for all areas of events preparation (e.g. staffing, presentation of food and drink, room set-up).
- Develop, implement and monitor catering operation best practice standards guidelines.
- Management of catering staff at events to ensure the consistent delivery of outstanding client service.
- Develop, implement and monitor a set of Standard Operating Procedures, covering all aspects of event preparation and operational delivery.
- Responsible for catering staff development (e.g. identifying training needs, conducting annual appraisals, succession planning).
- Accountable for planning staffing levels against budget forecast, ensuring a pipeline of quality casual staff is maintained.
- Assist the Catering and Hospitality Manager with the planning and execution of match-day events.
- Responsible for staff welfare (e.g. uniforms, lockers allocations, changing facilities, legally- compliant documentation, briefings and training).
- Accountable for the safe storage and maintenance of all catering equipment (e.g. stock taking, linen management, crockery and cutlery, mitigating risk of theft).
- Ensure clear and timely communication with Deputy Catering Manager with regards to all chargeable activities for all events and functions.
- Conduct site appointments with clients and suppliers when required.
- Maintain a safe and secure environment, ensuring that all areas of the Club are secure before leaving site.
- Ensure SCCC is compliant with relevant legislation including food hygiene and the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 regulations.
- Ensure that security procedures are produced and adhered to when dealing with cash handling.
Other Duties
- Work with others in your Department to achieve the Club's goals.
- Provide administration support as and when required.
- Project a positive image of SCCC at all times.
- Any other reasonable duty as requested by the Chief Executive.
