The mission of the ECB is to develop the game from Playground to Test Arena. One of the key objectives of the organisation is to develop and maintain successful England Cricket Teams. Head Coaches of The England Disabilities teams are responsible for the preparation and development of players within the England Disability programmes.

In order to achieve this key objective, the ECB are seeking to appoint a Head Coach who will play a vital role in developing the most talented physically disabled cricketers in England and Wales, through world class coaching and support services, in world class facilities.


The successful candidate will report to the Head of Disability Cricket and will work closely with the England Squad Management Team, Regional Disability Talent Development Managers and domestic coaches in order to successfully prepare England cricketers for international competition. Applicants should have:

  • Experience as a Head Coach or leader of a high performance team with a proven track record of success
  • Understanding of domestic and international disability cricket 
  • Experience of performance and technical analysis systems 
  • Have attained or be working towards ECB Level 4 coaching qualification or international equivalent 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Strong people management skills and a verifiable record of working within a multi-disciplinary environment in the delivery of coaching programmes 
  • Experience of working with disabled cricketers is desirable but not essential.

 

Job Description 

Purpose of the job: 

The England Disability’s Head Coach (EDHC) is to be employed by the ECB on a consultancy basis to provide leadership, guidance and direction to the England Disability’s elite programme.

The EDHC will oversee the work of domestic disability cricket coaches and Regional coaches in the preparation of physically disabled cricketers, utilizing these coaches in England training sessions where applicable. The EDHC will have a close working relationship with all members of the England Management Team including the physiotherapist, exercise scientist, performance analyst and team manager.

Principle Responsibilities: 

  • To select and prepare the countries best available cricketers with a physical disability to play and win international cricket matches for England 
  • To work alongside the Head of Disability Cricket and Head of Elite Coach Development to recruit high quality coaching and support staff for the elite Disability programmes 
  • To set individual and team performance targets for all England Physical Disability Squad members 
  • To work with the Regional Coaches to develop and implement a core programme for the Regional Development Squads 
  • To introduce, and oversee the delivery of Performance Lifestyle programmes 
  • To assist the Head of Disability Cricket in the planning and programming of tours 
  • To liaise regularly with the Head of Disability Cricket on all matters relating to performance and any circumstances which may require the deployment of a replacement player 
  • To produce an end of tour report in accordance with guidelines provided by the Cricket Department to be submitted to the Head of Disability Cricket 
  • To maintain within the England Disabilities team the highest standards of behaviour and discipline

Nature and Scope of Job:

Job Context:

The mission of the ECB is to develop the game from Playground to Test Arena. One of the key objectives of the organisation is to develop and maintain successful England Disability Cricket Teams. The England Disability Head Coach will provide leadership, expertise and vision for the England Disability’s programme for the specific impairment groups. 

It is envisaged that the role will take up around 50 days per year plus a two week tour when there is an international series.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Extensive coaching experience and expertise working with elite cricketers 
  • Experience of creating and maintaining a culture of excellence 
  • An understanding of Disability Domestic Cricket and/or international cricket across one or more impairment groups 
  • Have attained or be working towards ECB Level 4 or international equivalent 
  • Experience of performance and technical analysis systems 
  • Good general IT skills 
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Demonstrable leadership skills 
  • Energy, enthusiasm, initiative, flexibility/adaptability 
  • Ability and willingness to coach teams and squads overseas when required

There will be a requirement to work weekends and to travel to meet with regional and county coaches
