Cricket is New Zealand’s staple summer sport with more than 100,000 people currently playing the game, making it one of the most widely played sports in the country.

Nelson Cricket Association is responsible for the delivery of grass roots cricket in the region, with a strategy to increase playing numbers, host outstanding cricket events at Saxton Oval, have a successful representative team and maintain financial stability.

Due to a promotion within New Zealand Cricket we’re looking for a new General Manager to lead and inspire the organisation, ensuring that we achieve our strategic and operational goals.  This is a challenging full time role, leading a small team of 2 plus a number of independent contractors during the cricket season.   Reporting to the Chairman, you’ll also be liaising with New Zealand Cricket, affiliated clubs, schools, sponsors and commercial partners, local council officials, the media and on occasion the ICC and Cricket World Cup 2015.

The ideal applicant will:

  • Have a passion for cricket 
  • Have an understanding of current sports governance 
  • Have good commercial skills and knowledge including financial management 
  • Be results-driven with effective planning skills 
  • Be a strong relationship builder with excellent interpersonal skills 
  • Previous event management experience would also be useful.
