The Western Australian Cricket Association (WACA) is the governing body of cricket in the state of Western Australia, home to WA's elite teams, the Alcohol.Think Again Warriors and the Alcohol.Think Again Western Fury, and the T20 Big Bash League's male and female Perth Scorchers. It oversees the development of the game of cricket throughout WA and works in conjunction with Cricket Australia to make cricket Australia's favourite sport. The WACA's vision is to be leaders in Australian cricket in the areas of national team representation, elite team success, participation, engagement and fan experience.
The WACA has an exciting, entry level position for a turf enthusiast to join the team as Turf Apprentice. Reporting through to the Turf Manager, you will be assisting in the preparation of all turf areas of the WACA Ground including the outfield, wicket block and practice turf wickets and assisting with the maintenance of our garden areas.
Under constant supervision, you will be using machinery to cut grass and prepare the ground for cricket matches. You will be applying fertiliser, and insecticides as required. While working with the Turf team you will be learning about wicket preparation and you will be involved in international and Big Bash League matches. Availability to work outside of normal hours and weekend work will be required during the cricket season; September through until March.
As a Turf Apprentice, you will undertake a Cert III in Sports Turf Management at Challenger TAFE while you undertake practical work at the WACA Ground.
