Keen listeners to the Cricket Show will remember we talked about the best technology to use for coaching. Mark Garaway made a few recommendations during the show.

Here is the list:

Laptop

Laptops with their keyboards and bigger screens are useful for certain tasks. Data can be organised with a simple spreadsheet like Numbers or Excel. You can present information to players using Keynote or PowerPoint apps. PitchVision Coach Edition will run on your laptop for instant feedback.

Specs are not vital, and any modern computer from the last couple of years can do a fine job. Look for good build quality and if you are prepared to pay a premium you can get a better quality screen. Apple call it "retina" while others call it HD. It's not vital but it is nice to have.

iPad

Garas recommended the iPad for an "on the go" system. You lose the keyboard but you gain incredible portability and a touch screen interface. Apps included:

• CricHQ
• Coach's Eye
• Ubersense

While there are other more general personal organisation apps you can read about here.

Other tablets that run Windows and Android are also available and will work well, but it's hard to beat the sheer choice in the Apple store for cricket apps. If you can't afford both an iPad and a laptop then Gara's first choice would be the iPad.

Other technology

The iPad has a camera, but it is not always the most useful, so if you have any money left after splashing out on a laptop and tablet, you can always by a digital camera with a high frame rate for slow motion analysis.

Garas also sung the praises of using a smart phone for various coaching tricks if you have access to nothing else.
